Hamas: Amount of aid entering Gaza is completely insufficient, there’s fear of hunger spreading

Michel Nisenbaum, 59

Hundreds attended the funeral of Michel Nissenbaum, whose body was returned to Israel last week after he was taken hostage to Gaza on October 7and murdered.

Nissenbaum was born in Brazil and immigrated to Israel, where he lived in the southern Israeli city of Sderot. On the morning of October 7, Nissenbaum went to rescue his granddaughter from the Re’im military base, where she was staying with her father, who was an officer there. Contact was lost with Nissenbaum while he was on his way to the base, and his personal documents later appeared in a video published by Hamas.

Nissenbaum was 59 when he died, the father of two daughters and grandfather of six grandchildren, the youngest of whom he never met.

At the funeral, Nissenbaum’s daughter said, “From the second the terrorists touched your phone, I knew our lives would never be the same again. I’m sorry we couldn’t bring you back [from Gaza] earlier; for the past seven months, we did everything we could to make sure everyone knew who you are. Now you’re home.”

Nissenbaum’s niece also paid tribute to him at the funeral and appealed to the government to return the hostages as soon as possible.
